I've been watching tons of old movies lately! And recently realized how many of them are adaptations of plays. So often you'll see in the credits 'based on the play by X'. It seems like much fewer movies now are based on plays. Anyways, was watching 'Separate Tables', which is a great movie, and happens to be originally a play....a very interesting example actually, as the original play is two acts, with two separate stories and the main actors play the leads in both stories....in the film version they cut down one of the two stories significantly. I suppose for time.
But anyways. It made me start thinking about what were some of my favorite movies that are originally plays. 12 Angry Men, Indiscreet, and for a rare newer example The Crucible.
Anyone else have any favorites?

Oooh good question! I personally think Streetcar Named Desire is exceptional! And Picnic with William Holden and Kim Novak is one of my favorite movies of all time!

I remember watching a PBS adaptation of THE PIANO LESSON some years ago and that inspired me to write my first play. I like the Gwyneth Paltrow/Anthony Hopkins take on PROOF. WIT was good with EMMA THOMPSON. They did a great PBS take of THE WOMEN (I think that' the title) with the Cynthia Nixon.
